If you are a purist who still believes that Instagram pictures should be square yet somehow inelegantly frame your photo so that it only works in portrait or landscape you should one – 1) get over it, 2) take photography lessons, and 3) download Square Fix.
Farewell to cut photos
This extremely simple app has one purpose, to make the process of turning your photos into squares hassle free. Though since Instagram removed the restriction of the 1:1 ratio on recent iOS and Android releases, the only real benefit of this is for those viewing on older devices or in a browser.
All Quick Square asks is the you select the photo you want to convert, and it will render it into the largest possible 1:1 image for Instagram or Facebook Messenger. All you need to do after that is select what you want to fill in the space around the picture.
Then it is ready to share with Instagram, but if you want to spend a couple of minutes, you can also add emoji, effects, or text.
Variety is key
Quick Square offers plenty of ways to square off your photos: plain backgrounds, patterns, an enlarged and blurred version of the same image, different color variations, and traditional picture frames. Best of all, it’s easy to play around with these until you find the one you want.
You can add emojis to any part of the image, and then rotate and expand them to fit. While it may lack the depth of emoji images seen in apps like Whatsapp, it does provide a good selection for most situations.
Unfortunately the text entry options are a bit more limited with few fonts on offer. It’s true that text is not the point of the app, but once the feature is in I would hope the developer would have made it feel more complete.
Delivers what it promises
Square Quick is not stylish and it has been out dated by Instagram’s evolution, but it perfectly fulfills its function: to quickly and attractively make your images square. It is certainly recommended to all Instagram users who like to view their feed on browsers, as it allows you to see the whole picture without having to click.
